What We're Reading - Summer 2010
Here's what some of our pastoral staff are reading right now.
(Scroll over pictures to see the book covers.)
Myrna Talbot, Director of Equipping Ministries
No Time for Goodbye by Lynwood Barclay
Myrna says, "This summer I am reading all of Lynwood Barclay’s books. Lyn used to write a humour/satire column for the Toronto Star, but recently he has gained international recognition as a suspense writer. Currently, I am reading Bad Guys, but have already finished 4 others. I would recommend any of them, but I particularly enjoyed No Time for Goodbye."
Alvin Kim, Director of Family Ministries
Outliers by Malcolm Gladwell
Alvin says, "It’s basically about how success isn’t just all about the specific hero on an individual journey of hard work + determination, but how heroes have also been shaped by such important things as when they were born, what family they were born into, and even their cultural background. It was a great reminder how humbly we walk in this life knowing God has shaped us through a myriad of circumstances and relationships. It was also thought provoking in terms of how there could be more success stories if things were tweaked, even having different cut off dates to produce more phenomenal athletes in sports!"
Roger Bergs, Music Director
The Holiness of God by RC Sproul
and
God's Passion for His Glory: Living the Vision of Jonathan Edwards by John Piper
