Introducing our Interim Worship Coordinator: Brandon Davis

Hello Knox,

At the beginning of this month I began my role as the Interim Worship Coordinator. I will be helping to facilitate worship as Kristen steps away to follow God’s call, and as the leadership discerns what will come next.

Knox became my home church in 2014, when I attended the evening service while studying Jazz Bass at the University of Toronto. The community was a pivotal part of my spiritual growth, and Knox is where I was baptized, where I met my wife Emily, and Pastor Phil officiated our wedding. While I was in New York for my Master of Music (from 2015 to 2018), I would look forward to serving on the worship team at Knox when I was back in Toronto for the summers. And when moving back to Toronto permanently, my wife and I felt a calling to grow deeper in our roots at Knox.

I grew up in a Christian home and always believed in God, but it remained a solely intellectual belief for years. God changed that in me very suddenly in 2014, at one of Knox’s young adult retreats. In that weekend, God tangibly, near viscerally, revealed Himself to me, opening me up to His love and presence. My faith went from that of cold intellect, to a living relationship with God. He’s been teaching me the joy of trusting Him with more and more of my life – from big decisions like moving countries to things as small as what note to play next.

I have been grateful for a clear calling from God to this position, and a gentle preparation for it over the last six years. From serving in worship under Ken Michell and Roger Bergs, to deeper involvement as the 4:30pm Band Leader working under Kristen; I have seen God’s hand shaping me for this next season. And that has been a great comfort to me.

And as I’m hopeful for how God will use and shape me in this next season, I’m hopeful for what God has for Knox as a whole. A lot is changing at Knox, but God’s hand is quite clearly at work – both in the lives of those he’s called away, and here. He has well laid, loving plans, even if they’re unknowable to us from where we stand in time.

Please feel free to reach out with any questions, concerns, or just to say hello. I look forward to continuing to worship alongside you all, and seeing what God has in store for our community.

Yours in Christ,

Brandon
