Prayer Meeting for Refugee Response

Will you join you us to pray as we discern: is time for us to pursue refugee sponsorship or other actions of welcome to refugees?

Sunday, February 5 from 12:30-2:00pm
Winchester Room

Light lunch provided.

The movement of peoples in the 21st century is unprecedented. The current migration estimate puts the number of international migrants to 272 million. Of these, 25.9 million are refugees and 41.3 million are internally displaced people due to violence and conflict. In this period of displacement and wars, God is calling his people to walk with refugees.

God reminds us in Leviticus 19: 33-34: “‘When a foreigner resides among you in your land, do not mistreat them. The foreigner residing among you must be treated as your native-born. Love them as yourself, for you were foreigners in Egypt. I am the Lord your God.” The Hebrew word for foreigner is “ger” which refers to a person without citizenship benefits. The closest modern equivalent to the “ger” is a refugee.

In our response to global refugee crises through the years, Knox has expressed hospitality to refugees through refugee sponsorship and supporting local refugee centres. A small group of our church family (Pr. Nes, Elder Norine, Adam and Brenda) have began to wonder if it is again time for our church community to respond in a significant or new way to welcome refugees this season.

Will you join us? Have any questions? Email Pr. Nes at nestor@knoxtoronto.org
