Summer 2020: Let's read and learn more about anti-racism together
As a follow-up to our panel discussion on anti-racism our church is offering further discipleship opportunities on this important issue in the form of Summer Book Clubs.
The book clubs begin the second week of July, and consist of 4 video calls over July and August. Once you are registered you’ll receive an email with further details. We encourage you to register soon so you can order the book or download the e-book and start reading!
There is an option on the registration form for those who need financial assistance in purchasing a book.
See below for further information and sign up today via the registration form found at this link.
God of Justice by Abraham George and Nikki A. Toyama-Szeto
Led by Pr. Nestor and Ann Chow
This group is for those who love justice and want to understand better what the Bible says about this important topic, from Genesis to Revelation. The book was co-authored by Abraham George, the Director for International Church Mobilization for International Justice Mission (IJM) and Nikki Toyama-Szeto, who was our featured speaker and preacher at Knox a few years ago on the topic of justice, perhaps you remember her! She also worked for IJM, was the program director for two Urbanas and is the current Executive Director for Evangelicals for Social Action.
Wednesdays, July 8, 22 and August 5, 19 at 7pm via Zoom.
White Awake by Daniel Hill
Led by Pr. Kristen and Fran Westwood
This group is for anyone white or white-identifying who is asking questions about what it means to follow Jesus in a racialized world. Reflecting on the author's cultural identity journey and our own, we will explore topics of power, privilege, shame and what Jesus invites us to do with them, as we seek to actively participate in racial reconciliation.
Tuesdays July 7, 21, August 4, 18 at 7:30pm via Zoom.
His Testimonies, My Heritage: Women of Color on the Word of God by Kristie Anyabwile
Led by Pr. Ashlee and Karen-Luz Sison
This group is for Black, Indigenous and Women of Colour to come together to tell our stories and be found in God’s story through a devotional of Psalm 119 written by women from diverse backgrounds. You are invited to a space of safety and refreshment where we’ll celebrate our diversity and our unity in Christ.
Thursdays July 9, 23, August 6, 20 at 7:30pm via Zoom.
