Coming Up this Winter + Spring
Dear Knox Community,
January was a significant month for our community as we said “yes!” to extending the invitation to the Rev. Alex MacLeod to be our next Senior Minister. In the weeks and months ahead, we still have some waiting to do – but by no means will our community and ministry be standing still.
Our pastoral team is always eager to continue to see our church community deepen and grow. Below you’ll find a list of events coming up that both mark the things we believe God is calling us to pay attention to AND that we trust will engage you in your journey with Jesus in meaningful ways.
Take a look, mark your calendars, and plan to join us as we follow Jesus, love the city, and serve the world together.
Notes about this season
February is Black History Month! This year we’ll be marking it by incorporating the voices of Black theologians and writers in our worship liturgies, we’ll have leaders from the Black community in Toronto preach with us; and on Friday, Feb 17 Temeka and a host of musicians invite us to worship night that will draw from the African American Heritage Hymnal that highlights a rich history of hymns, spirituals, and gospel songs written or widely sung by Black believers.
Lent begins on February 22. Later in February we will extend an invitation to our community to enter into the Lenten season but for now you can mark your calendars for Ash Wednesday and Holy Week services (listed below), and anticipate that our pastoral staff will have some spiritual resources for us to enrich our experience of the season.
Special Giving Opportunity
Walmart Gift Cards
As our new phase of outreach to parents and caregivers of young children continues to find its footing, we can’t ignore the rising cost of living in the city and what that means for the most vulnerable. To that extent, we’re inviting all who are able to consider giving $25 Walmart Gift Cards that we can distribute to community outreach participants to further support them in much needed practical ways.
There are 2 ways to give:
Purchase $25 Walmart gift cards and drop them off at the church – either on Sunday during the offering (just place them in the offering plate or white giving box) or any weekday at the office.
Make a donation designated to the Community Outreach fund. Online at knoxtoronto.org/give (coming soon!) or cash or cheque through an envelope at the church - marking the envelope with a note re. “Community Outreach Fund”. Monetary donations are eligible for tax receipts.
