Summer Fellowship 2022

Wednesdays in July | 7:00pm dessert + 7:30pm talk

The summer is always a different pace and this summer especially, as we continue to emerge out of all the pandemic protocols, we wanted to shape a time to regroup, to gather again: around tables, for food and for fellowship, for engaging teaching and good discussion.

We’ve designed this series so that each week is a stand-alone teaching, so feel free to attend one or attend all of them! We’ve invited speakers who, in the work and ministry, put flesh on the values that make up our church’s mission statement and speak into topics we hope and trust you’ll find relevant and engaging in your faith and life. We’re also polled our pastors for their favourite desserts! We’ve heard there’s a fine history of delicious treats that have been served in past Summer Fellowships, so do your best to come early to enjoy some sweets together!

The list of our speakers and desserts is below!
Save the date and even pick up a postcard at the church to share with a friend.

Here’s to the gift of summer and a season to gather in-person once again. Thanks be to God!

Your pastors,

Nick, Nestor, Temeka, Natasha, and Frances

DISCIPLES, MENTORS & LOVING THE CITY

Cristal Hines, Yonge Street Mission
Frances’ Choice Dessert: Crème brûlée

Toronto-born woman of Afro/Indo Caribbean descent and raised there for most of my childhood, I quickly learned about the importance of community and having a strong village, especially of people who looked like me. Though not all of those years were full of sunshine and lilies, they felt like home. Subsequent years after moving from Toronto to Whitby, on the other hand made me particularly conscious of issues of equity, oppression and marginalization. Besides being one of the only Black girls in my classes coupled with years of anti-Black bullying, streamlining and others forms of anti-Black racism, I quickly became acclimatized to the contending dynamics of power and privilege that shaped the perspectives of my peers, influenced outcomes of success determined by educators and ultimately foreshadowed the trajectory of what could have been my academic journey. Read more of her journey here.
