Building & Property Update: May 2022

The Building and Property Committee is looking forward to the construction of the new commercial kitchen!  The new commercial kitchen will be constructed to the South of the Winchester Room, in the spaces currently occupied by the North kitchen and library.  Construction is set to begin this summer and be completed by Christmas.  This new kitchen will significantly increase Knox Church’s ability to host events, run programming and conduct rentals.  It will also provide Knox Church with a fully functioning kitchen when the Fellowship Hall is demolished to make room for the new South side residential development (est. 2026 / 2027).

Some points of note with regards to the construction of the new commercial kitchen:

  •  The library will be moved to the North wall of the Winchester room. This location will help to ensure that the library will be visible and accessible for our congregation.

  • During the construction of the commercial kitchen, a temporary wall will be built from East to West across the entire South end of the Winchester Room. This wall will help to prevent construction dust and activity from entering the Winchester Room, allowing this space to remain open. The temporary wall will be removed once construction is complete.

  • The South kitchen will remain operational throughout the construction of the new commercial kitchen. Unfortunately, Knox Church will not have a functioning dishwasher during the construction phase. As a result, we plan to use compostable, disposable coffee cups and plates for our operations during the construction phase.

  • The commercial kitchen has been designed to integrate with the planned Main Phase of the renewal of Knox Church building that is expected to happen in 2026/2027. The commercial kitchen is to remain operational during the Main Phase.

Please keep the Building and Property Committee in your prayers as we continue to work towards the renewal of Knox Church site and facilities.
