Sermon Series: The Harder Invitation

Jesus’ invitation to follow him is good: it is freely given, it is widely offered, and it is lavish in its promises. It is also hard.

Jesus encourages those who he calls to consider the cost of following him before they do—because his way is narrow and it challenges us like nothing else, because it requires a total transformation of our hearts and our lives.

As Jesus turns toward the cross, we remember that the cross-shaped life is the invitation of Jesus for each of us. We will be challenged as we follow him to stay close to him, to live as he lived—but we have the promise that whatever we endure for his sake produces in us joy and life forevermore.

This Lent, through scripture and sermons we will consider the invitation of Christ which is harder than we’d hoped, more difficult than we would have chosen, but which is so incredibly good. It’s an invitation to let God form us into the image of Christ for God’s glory and for his purposes in our lives and in the whole world.
