Sermon Series: Surprised by Hope

After the resurrection, Jesus stayed and spent 40 days with his followers. Can you imagine what that was like? The disciples had gone from abject despair to the most wonderful joy in the space of a few days. Once the shock of realizing Jesus really had risen from the dead wore off, they must have been practically glowing with new understanding of the abundant life Jesus had always promised them. We might describe them as “Surprised by Hope” – and that’s the title of our new sermon series. Starting on April 14, we’ll take 5 Sundays to look at passages in the Gospels that offer an historical account of what Jesus did and what he said to his friends. Then we’ll move into the book of Acts as we prepare to celebrate the birthday of the church with Pentecost on May 19. In the process, we’ll wrestle with the nature of Christ and his coming Kingdom as well as the shape of God's calling for us to reflect his grace and share his truth with the world.
